5 Tips for Managing a Growing Portrait Collection

I just did Olivia's senior portraits and realized I've been photographing her and her family for the past decade! As our Limited Edition Holiday Sessions are booking up with past clients before we even advertised them, it got me thinking.  How do our returning clients manage displaying a growing portrait collection when there's so many great photos to choose from? So, I'd like to discuss some tips today for my loyal clients who return year after year. Here are my 5 tips for managing a growing portrait collection in your home:

  1. To avoid clutter, unify the photos by similar frames or of a similar style so they are cohesive.  A group of photos can quickly look like clutter if there are too many distracting elements at work on your mantel or wall.
  2. Display the images that best represent your loved ones or that are the most special.  Often this means a candid moment for my clients.  When you really edit down which photos are displayed, it makes the remaining images stand out more.  Less is more.
  3. Edit and update the photos you display in your home each year and decide which ones are staying and which ones should move to a photo album or a keepsake image box.
  4. For those cases that have trouble editing down which images to display, consider an image box and an easel or frame that can showcase dozens of photos and is really easy to update.
  5. Select portraits that match the colors in your home decor.  This is something to think about when selecting your outfits for your portrait session!

For those interested in booking their Holiday Limited Edition Session, be sure to call or email today before we're booked! And, for those already booked - I cannot wait to see how your families have grown over the last year!  It's one of my favorite parts of what I do as a photographer.
